Three generations of Marcadier-Barbot will greet you if you happen to come by "le Pible", just outside of Segonzac, capital of the Grande-Champagne, first cru of Cognac.
In this family, wine growing and distilling is passed down from father to son, as you can tell by the copper stills and the wine storehouse's blackened walls. The picking is done in october, and the distilling in november-december.
The Marcadier-Barbot oak-aged cognacs have exceptional finesse, aroma, and supple palate, justifying this first cru of Cognac.
You can access "le Pible" from Segonzac, by taking the direction of Barbezieux, driving down a little over a mile, and turning left outside Segonzac towards "le Pible", St Preuil, and following the signposts « Cognac Pineau Chambre d'Hôtes MARCADIER-BARBOT ». The estate is located near a water tower (usually used as the landmark).
Alain and Dany Barbot have received the labels "Bienvenue à la ferme", and "Les étapes du Cognac et Gîtes de France", thanks to their much appreciated conviviality.
The family will also offer a tour of their vineyard to discover the typical "charentais" landscape.
